Flood
Preparing for the consequences
of too much water.
The most common type of natural disaster is a flood. Not just a
threat to lower elevations, any area near water or downstream
from a dam must be prepared to deal with flooding. Typically
brought on by extended periods of precipitation, floods can
mean a slow rise in area water levels or a flash flood that
sends millions of gallons rushing through an area in a matter
of minutes. Either way, the after effects can mean monumental
losses of life and property.
